Keep It Clean, Safe, and Legal: 2025 Wildwood Boardwalk Compliance Update
As we begin a new season on the Wildwood Boardwalk, the City is committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and family-friendly environment for everyone. Our goal is not to issue citations, but to work with business owners to ensure full compliance with city codes.
City inspectors are currently out walking the boards with a focus on education and cooperation.
For All Boardwalk Businesses
Here are a few key reminders to help us keep the boardwalk enjoyable for all:
● No Merchandise or Signage on the Boardwalk: All merchandise must remain inside the building line. Limited exceptions apply Monday through Friday in May (before Memorial Day) and September (after Labor Day) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Weekend displays are not permitted. See the ordinance on www.wildwoodnj.org for specifics.
● Maintain a Family-Friendly and Presentable Storefront: Please ensure all items visible to the public are appropriate for a family setting. Suggestive merchandise should be moved to the back of the store and kept out of public view. In addition, simple upkeep—like painting garage doors and keeping storefronts clean—goes a long way in creating a positive, welcoming atmosphere for our visitors.
● Vape Sales – No Minors/No Flavors: All retailers are reminded that selling vape products to minors is prohibited under New Jersey law. Additionally, flavored vapes are banned statewide. The City is actively monitoring Boardwalk businesses for compliance. Violations will result in citations.
Let’s work together to make this a successful and respectful season on the Boardwalk.
Essential Action Required: Mercantile License for Rental Property Owners
The City of Wildwood also reminds all property owners renting their homes—whether through Airbnb, VRBO, or private listings—that a valid Mercantile License is required by law.
This applies to all rental properties, regardless of how frequently they are rented.
The City has the tools and resources to track rental activity and property addresses, making compliance not only expected but enforceable. Operating without a license may result in fines or penalties.
To stay in compliance and protect your rental business:
Visit the Clerk’s Office to apply for your Mercantile License.
Ensure your rental listings reflect your license status.
Act now to avoid disruptions or enforcement.
We are here to help and encourage every rental owner to take this important step today. A simple license protects you, your tenants, and your investment.
Protect the Peace: Help Us Keep Rentals Safe and Family-Friendly
Alongside licensing, we also urge rental property owners to help maintain the peaceful, family-centered character of our community:
● Be Judicious About Who You Rent To: Please screen guests carefully and take steps to prevent nuisance behavior such as loud parties, overcrowding, or underage drinking. Properties tied to repeated complaints will be subject to city action.
● Post the 10:00 PM Curfew in Your Rentals: The City of Wildwood enforces a 10:00 PM curfew for minors. We ask all rental owners to make adult guests aware and post a notice inside your property. This small step helps support safety and cooperation throughout our neighborhoods. Minors may be out with guardians after 10PM.
We do not want to write citations or head to court; we want collaboration. Let’s all do our part to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for residents, property owners, and guests this season.
